Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

White Cross Vets is a friendly local practice with more than 80 years’ experience of caring for pets.

Our Handsworth, Sheffield practice is based on Retford Road and we’re open six days a week – Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 7pm and on a Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

We’re one of White Cross’s youngest practices having opened in April 2018 and our new purpose built practice is located on the site of an old sausage factory – and believe it or not our vet Rebecca has her very own sausage dog!

We’re a friendly and fun team and we all understand how important your pets are to you because we’re all besotted by pets ourselves – in fact we have 12 pets between us!

Away from work we still like to spend time with pets of all shapes and sizes – nurse Bryony does field trials with gundogs, for example!

Find out who’s been visiting us this week plus more about what we offer on our dedicated practice Facebook page.

Services

You’ll find that our practice at Handsworth, Sheffield is fully equipped with the latest technology which means we can offer a wide range of operations so we can keep your pet’s stress levels down as there’s no need to transport them to another practice for treatment.

Our state-of-the-art equipment includes an operating theatre, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory for rapid diagnosis of illnesses, separate dog and cat wards, blood pressure monitor and an ultrasound machine.

We understand that cats are not just small dogs which is why we have created a cat-friendly clinic with pheromone diffusers, treats and separate, spacious cat wards with ultra soft bedding. That’s just one way we make all pets feel as comfortable as possible and keep their stress levels at a minimum.

Please call 0114 478 6999 to speak to a member of our team if you have any concerns about your pet.

Community work

At our Handsworth, Sheffield practice we’re committed to give something back to the people and pets of our local communities.

We’re proud to be able to say that we treat all school pets and wildlife for free. Our vets visit schools and host educational talks for a variety of local groups and clients to talk about responsible pet ownership – please get in touch if you’d like us to visit your school or community group.

We encourage our team to go out into the community and make a difference by giving every team member five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend time volunteering for a charitable cause of their choice.

We provide support for local charities including South Yorkshire Springer Spaniel Rescue (SYESSR) and we accept heavily discounted Dogs Trust and Cats Protection vouchers as well as providing support directly to the charities themselves.

And, to say thank you to those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces.

Pet dental services: dental care for dogs, cats and rabbits

We recommend you should have your pet’s teeth examined by one of our team on a regular basis. As many conditions are progressive, early identification is important.

A full dental check is included free with our Complete Wellness Plan.

If necessary, this should be followed up with a professional dental clean. Our team will then remove the tartar above and below the gumline and polish them, just like a dentist does for our teeth.

If certain teeth are so severely affected they cannot be saved, extractions will be necessary. Pets are usually able to go home on the same day.

– Dental health checks £FREE

– Dental with extractions (all-inclusive) £299
This price includes: blood tests, general anaesthetic, fluids, medication and unlimited digital dental X-rays

– Rabbit dental package (all-inclusive) £125
This price includes: general anaesthetic, fluids, medication, dental X-rays and post op feeding

Our all-inclusive dental packages give you peace of mind that you can provide your pet with the best dental care without being surprised by any hidden costs. Please note that all pets on the Complete Wellness Plan will receive 20% off all dental procedures.

I arrived in tears thinking this was end of life care. Rebecca checked her and found she was producing milk. She has had a phantom pregnancy at 10. I didn’t know wether to laugh or cry. Thanks for seeing us so promptly."

The receptionist was so helpful and went above and beyond to give me advice on the health package that they offer and vet couldn’t have been more helpful and reassuring and explained everything in detail. I wouldn’t dream of going anywhere else now after my experience here."

  • "I took my two rabbits to White Cross this morning for their booster vaccinations and health checks. When I got there I was greeted by a receptionist and the vet, both were very polite and friendly. The vet handled my rabbits brilliantly especially considering one of them doesn't like to be handled! The vet came across as very knowledgeable in comparison to previous vets I have seen and gave me lots of helpful advice. I will definitely use White Cross going forward and would highly recommend. Thank you."

    - Nicole Germanek

  • "Would just like to say a massive thank you to Rebecca the vet and team for taking such good care of Bella when she came in to be spayed and on her after care appointment today. You were all very friendly and it was clear that Bella was in good hands. We loved the little extra touches too like the Top Dog bandana she was wearing and the special food she came home with. Thanks for looking after her and all the kisses and cuddles you gave her you were all amazing xx"

    - claire fisher

  • "It’s more of important for my Labrador to review this vets but I can honestly say Dub is like a year old puppy again since joining in April!
The lovely vets and in fact, all staff are so happy and helpful.
When you see a dog smiling and running into a vets surgery, it’s a huge bonus. She never did before, they have got straight to the bottom of the problem and helping my 8 yr old fur baby become lively again."

    - Victoria Rice-Heaps

  • "After losing faith in my previous vets I decided to try White Cross Vets today. From the moment I called them they were so friendly and helpful, the nurse spent a good amount of time talking to me on the phone. She invited me to pop in with my dogs and I was given a tour. The premises are super impressive and the staff are beyond friendly and helpful and you get a sense they are there to give you their time and help. I decided to register and feeling very positive about my two babies having care here. Thank you to the two nurses and the vet Rebecca x"

    - Emma Rowland

  • "Visited twice now and each time the vet has explained everything very well. Friendly people and glad I moved here. Only downside I would say is that it needs 2 people on reception. When ringing it can take time to get through as the 1 receptionist is always very busy. Can take time when you come out to pay too because of this. More staff needed!"

    - angela wood

  • "Excellent vets, just brought my shih tzu home from being spayed. Staff so friendly, and Bella came home with food for the next few days a cute 'top dog' bandanna and pain killers all in with the price £65."

    - katie lou

  • "I took my VERY nervous dog here for our first visit last week. She needed a lump on her paw looked at. I explained to the vet how nervous and reactive she can be at the vets, and the vet was fantastic. She knelt on the floor with her, talked gently to her, tickled her tummy and took her time. I’m so glad I swapped vets! Vet visits are never going to be fun for us, but this lady made it a whole lot easier for us. So thank you!"

    - karen birch

  • "Spayed offer booked, no hidden costs, care was great, pup healing well and appointments run on time.
    Excellent care for your pet.
    Fully recommend."

    - Lisa Barker

  • "First visit today with our little Scampi (10 week old JRT) had no idea a new vets had opened so close to home. Service was fantastic. The practice was very clean and we were welcomed by friendly, knowledgeable staff. Signed up to their complete care plan and look forward to visiting again soon."

    - SARAH KNOWLES

  • "Enticed by the offer of vaccinations for just £10, I took both of my cats for their annual boosters this morning.
Very modern, clean facilities with adequate parking available.
Busy clinic, but receptionist was very efficient.
Friendly vet who was happy to answer additional questions we might have as new clients to the practice (e.g. out-of-hours provision)
Excellent value for money - it was particularly nice NOT to be co-erced into buying 'add-on' products (e.g. treatment for fleas/worms) which we don't need at the moment.
    We will definitely be returning!"

    - Joanna Lloyd

  • "Would 100% recommenced this vets, lovely staff and very clean."

    - Aimee Wood

  • "Took my mums Yorkshire terrier today as she was poorly . The receptionist was so friendly and welcoming , she completed the registration quickly and told us we could wait to be squeezed in as we didn't have an appointment . We only waited 10 minutes and was seen by a vet . He was so friendly and really gentle and kind to the dog . He answered all our questions and really put my mums mind at ease . the surgery was clean , bright and very welcoming . The fees were also reasonable too . We will definitely be using again and will recommend to all our friends and family . X"

I contacted the vet hoping they had a spare appointment. The lovely Receptionist
booked Poppy in to see Dave.
