About Us

At our friendly and welcoming Roundhay vet practice in Leeds, you’ll find a professional and highly experienced team ready to provide care for cats, dogs, rabbits and other small pets.

Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

White Cross Vets has been caring for pets for more than 80 years when it was originally founded in Leeds – home of the first practice we opened.

Our Roundhay practice, based on Street Lane, is open from 8.30am to 7pm on Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 5pm on Saturdays.

We’re very proud that both our practice and a number of our team members have been nominated for Petplan Veterinary Awards so you know you’re pets will be in the safest of hands.

All our team members understand how important your pet is because they are pet owners themselves – between them they have 15 pets. And you’ll find that their interests outside of work revolve around pets too – well, pets and cake! Nurse Vicky does flyball and agility with her dog Tippi and client care co-ordinator Emily joins her for flyball with her dog Margo and also enjoys designing collars, leads, harness and bandanas for pets. Nurse Jemma volunteers for the Cinnamon Trust, walking and caring for dogs on behalf of owners who are struggling to get out and about.

Shared interests of the team include baking challenges (and eating the resulting cakes obviously), cycling, running and measuring how many steps we do around the practice with Fitbits.

Services

The facilities at our Roundhay vet practice include an operating theatre, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory (so results take only minutes rather than days), an ultrasound and a blood pressure monitor.

We know that it can be stressful for pets to visit the vets, so our surgery has been designed to make your pet as comfortable as possible. We use a combination of pheromones, special lighting and music to make your pet’s visit as calm as possible.

Our expert team has a wide range of interests and specialist skills – whether that’s an aspect of pet care, or a specific type of pet. Clinic director and vet James has a special interest in surgery to repair ligaments, fractures and orthopedics and soft tissue surgery.

If you’re ever concerned about your pet, just pick up the phone to chat to a member of our team.

Community work

Giving back to our community – especially the pet community – is important to everyone at White Cross Vets in Leeds, Roundhay.

We’re proud to be able to say that we always treat all school pets for free. At our Roundhay vet practice, for example, we provide free vet care for guinea pigs Chestnut and Conker at nearby Shakespeare Primary School.

We support local pet charities including the Leeds Cat Rescue, the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the Cat Action Trust whose excellent work to care for the cat population of Leeds we support through health checks and neutering.

We also encourage our team to make a difference to our community by giving every team member five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend time volunteering for a charitable cause of their choice. Our team use their days to volunteer at the nearby horse sanctuary at Weetwood, the Cinnamon Trust and the Baby Bank in Leeds – a food bank designed for those in urgent need of babycare essentials.

And, because we care for those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces to say thank you for all that you do.

Local area

We’re proud to provide pet friendly care to the community of Roundhay and the wider Leeds area.

Our veterinary practice, which has dedicated free customer parking, is located on Street Lane in Roundhay, opposite local landmark, Leeds’ most famous pizza restaurant, the San Carlo Flying Pizza. Further along Street Lane you’ll find Tropical World which is a great day out for all the family where you can meet creatures from rainforests, mangroves and deserts. If you’re looking for a quick drink or bite to eat, you’ll also find Banyan Bar and Kitchen and Starbucks very near the practice.

Looking for somewhere to walk your dog nearby? Our team of dog lovers recommend Roundhay Park which is almost on our doorstep and has over 700 acres for you and your dog to explore, making it one of the largest urban parks in the UK. You could also try Wigton Woods, Golden Acre Park with a lovely lake and outdoor cafe where every member of your family can treat themselves, Meanwood Park, Harewood House and Eccup Reservoir. You’ll often find members of our team exercising in Roundhay Park or on the Meanwood Valley Trail, keeping fit with their pets.

We know that caring for pets is a full-time commitment. That’s why we provide care 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through our trusted out-of-hours service partner.

  • "Just want to thank the team at White Cross vets for their continually great service. We've taken our Lhasa, Ivy there a few times now and she's just been today for two operations and they were so informative and helpful. Ivy is a sore, sleepy pup but I know she was treated so well there today. So, thank you!"

  • "If it wasn't for white cross vets at roundhay hundreds of feral cats wouldn't get neutered !!.
The staff are amazing and like 1 big happy family, they are always polite and friendly and happy to help, they are easy to talk to and always go above and beyond to help.
And I believe that white cross saved little Esther who was very ill and probably wouldn't have survived if they hadn't have seen her straight away.
I hope you get the award guys you deserve it xx"

    - Sammy Ellis

  • "The best most caring vets I have ever been to .always so happy , caring, and explain everything to you . Even daisy likes them."

    - Samantha Baltazar

  • "White cross vets saved my dogs life, twice! Heidi had an underlying heart condition that went undetected by several other vets for 8 years until I brought her to the lovely people at Roundhay - also, a short time later Heidi had an infected womb which needed emergency surgery, I thought I was going to lose her but she pulled through - after both these health issues were resolved she is like a 10 year old puppy :) the vets also assisted with paperwork that Heidi needed to travel to Australia - nothing was ever too much and I will be forever greatful :) thank you!"

    - Lisa Wiggins

  • "Poppy our Labrador had a poorly leg and so we went to see James. She had to have an operation and is now recovering really well. She was very well cared for by everyone and James explained all that would happen to settle my nerves! The nurses were really welcoming and made a fuss of both Poppy and me. We are now back to enjoying short walks in the recuperation process.
    Thank you to everyone"

    - Susan Miller

  • "I'm so very happy that after years of trying to find a good vet practice at last I've done so. The treatment my cats have received here at White Cross Roundhay has been wonderful, James, Andy, all the nurses and Sarah on reception have been great, lots of dentals, including putting right poor treatment from another vets. I truly think their strength lies with their willingness to explain options to pet owners, and I'd recommend them wholeheartedly to anyone."

    - Patricia Gregory

  • "Sadly we have had to leave the vets as we live in Morley and the 25 min journey is too much for our kitty!
The vet was lovely and brilliant with our cat for his check up. He is a very nervous cat with strangers and the vet was so good with him!
We rescued from cat action trust who use this surgery. You do wonders for the feral cat community! Keep it up and keep spaying at low cost for the lovely charities out there :-)"

    - Katie-Marie Friday

  • "A lot of people don't consider rabbits to be as much of a pet as a cat or a dog, but this wasn't the case when we brought Sonic in. He'd stopped eating which caused stasis, and it took a while to work out what had happened. We figured out it was a spur on his back tooth, so Andrew took him in for an emergency dental and his first general anaesthetic.
All the staff were lovely, the people on reception complemented Sonic on how cute he was, and Andrew handled him exactly how he likes to be handled. I was supplied with painkillers and antibiotics (try getting a rabbit to take metacam, it's very difficult!) and a get well soon card for Sonic. They made sure we had a check up appointment booked if need be, and the vet nurse, Emma, gave excellent advice when he was still wobbly from GA.
He definitely got his sass back, thank you!"

    - Sophie Rogerson

  • "All the staff genuinely care for all their patients. I'm Always greeted with a very warm welcome and everyone knows sweep.
She hasn't been very well but Andy and his staff have done everything possible to help with her recovery and she is much better now.
I saw James in the street and he stopped me to ask how she is doing.
Can't thank the roundhay team enough and would and have recommended this practice"

    - Sara Werter

  • "We have been coming to this practice for a few years now, and I always feel very informed and included in decisions for any treatment required. . Have just acquired a new puppy, and they have been amazing at giving me the support I forgot I needed! Would highly recommend to anyone ??"

    - Vanesa Randerson

  • "We have now been coming to the practise for 4 years or so. I have never been to a vets that has given such excellent service as white cross Roundhay does. All vets and nurses without exception are so friendly and helpful. I recieve phone calls when I'm told I will get them and always go the extra mile for me and my pets. They know my and my pets on first name terms and immediately who ever answers the phone knows who I am and the problem with my pets. I always feel reassured and welcome within the clinic and will continue to use them. I have recommended them to many of my friends. Thank you so much and please continue your fantastic work."

    - Jeni Louise Shedlow

  • "Fantastic practice, staff are all friendly and really helpful. Would highly recommend white cross vets Roundhay"

    - Sue Clark

  • "After recently having a Greek rescue English setter join our family of other animals, James, Andrew and Sarah have done a wonderful job of getting him to tip top condition by giving him a thorough check over, making sure his leishmaniasis is kept in check (plus all the research that went into finding out what it is!!), getting 14 rotten teeth out and all the after care that goes into each problem.
I had a different vet for 8 years and always felt over charged for everything. Since moving, I have felt informed at every step, talked to at exactly the right level, given really good advice and know that my pets are in good hands.
I am certainly pleased that I made the move and have told a lot of friends and family to come to the white cross side...they have dog biscuits!"

    - April Keech

  • "Fantastic veterinary practice, James & Andrew especially have helped me so much with my pet who has a lot of health problems. Can't rate you high enough!"

    - Kay Thompson

  • "We adopted a beautiful cat by the name of George yesterday afternoon however this morning we noticed that he had a problem with his right eye. George had been with white cross at a different practice in leeds with his previous owners, so we decided to use our white cross practice at Roundhay.
We have always had cats but we're not happy with our previous practice after our last cat passed away.
We were absolutely delighted with staff at white cross they were friendly professional and extremely helpful . We were seen by James who put us at ease and was very knowledgable. We will definitely be using this practice for George Excellent."

    - Debra Norman

  • "We, my Molly and Orlarf, just love going to White Cross, Roundhay. The whole team are so understanding of our owners anxieties and our own nervousness. Recently we lost our dear dog Rory, through a strangulation accident and we were so distraught, not knowing what to do we rang the surgery. Luckily for us Andy and Gemma were still there they offered to wait for us to bring Rory to the surgery, Andy carried him from our car we were given time and hugs and loving care was given to Rory. In the days that followed we received flowers and a card signed by everyone at the practise. I've had animals for 25 plus years and never had such empathic care and understanding as we receive from White Cross. They surely deserve a medal but an award would be great. Thank you."

    - Caroline TSE

  • "Highly recommend White Cross Vets as with what had happened with my young black lab Summer who cut her paw on a piece of glass/metal in Gledhow Valley woods cutting straight through into her main artery and needing an emergency operation to stop the blood. She's getting her wound re bandaged today I think she's gonna be happy as she keeps looking at us to say what is this big Blue thing on my paw and why do I have to wear this big huge bucket on my head at bed time! Haha but all in all she see seems so much happier from when it had happened and back to her normal self wanting to play and excited (though we don't let her be just yet as she still healing). I would like to thank you for looking after her and making her comfortable at the vets, I'm very grateful that we got her to you before the worst happened. thanks again xxx"

  • "White cross vets Roundhay practice is fantastic, having worked in a vets surgery it has been hard to find a Vet I would respect as much as my now retired boss, White Cross has excellent staff who make me feel like my pet is their top priority, highly recommend this practice."

    - Sarah Darcy

  • "We are at White Cross vets every week with Harry our Springer, well it feels like that often and probably isn’t too far wrong! Super service and warm and friendly staff. Prompt treatment also probably saved Harry’s eyesight. Would happily recommend to all.”"

    - Sue Crabtree
