About Us

Welcome to our White Cross Redcar practice where our friendly team of pet experts are ready and waiting to help take care of your dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets.

Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

White Cross Vets has been caring for pets across the UK for more than 80 years and our Redcar practice has cared for more than 16,000 pets from around Redcar, Maske and Saltburn.

Our Redcar practice, which you’ll find on West Dyke Road Retail Park, is open seven days a week to help care for your pet. We’re here from 8.30am to 7pm on Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm on Saturdays and 9am to 5pm on Sundays.

Our team understands how important our clients’ pets are – because they all own pets themselves – an unbelievable 53 between them! Everything from horses, dogs (including rescue dogs), cats and rabbits to a pair of bearded dragons! And as you might expect many of their out-of-work activities revolve around pets – client care co-ordinator Sue has an agility dog, client care co-ordinator Sue Mc was a guide dog trainer and our registered veterinary nurse Becca goes to Crufts every year. Registered veterinary nurse Catherine competes regularly at dressage and has competed at the Horse Show of the Year.

Other shared passions include cakes – our lovely client care co-ordinator Rachel bakes and decorates delicious cakes! – and fitness including running and zumba. The team takes part in charity events together to raise money for the White Cross Fund.

Find out more about our team and what we’ve been up to on our practice’s Facebook page.

Services

The facilities at White Cross Vets Redcar include an operating theatre equipped with anaesthetic facility for surgical procedures, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory (which enables rapid diagnosis), separate dog and cat wards, dentistry equipment and an ultrasound machine. This means the team can carry out a full range of procedures from blood pressure monitoring to emergency operations.

Our highly trained team bring together a combination of skills, interests and experience including Clinic director and vet Katherine who has a certificate in advanced veterinary practice specialising in small animal medicine and has a particular interest in endocrinology and feline medicine. Vet Cate has a particular interest in soft tissue surgery and vet Lisa is qualified in pet acupuncture. Registered veterinary nurse Catherine is a qualified physiotherapist and head nurse Allison has an interest in wounds.

If you have any concerns about your pet, please call 01642 486 338 to chat with one of our team or pop by to have a look around.

Community work

We’re proud to take our place at the heart of Redcar and the surrounding communities and we all love to give something back, however we can.

We sponsor the dog waste bins around Redcar, Maske and Saltburn and it’s our mission to reduce dog fouling. To support this we hand out free dog waste bags at reception and we regularly visit local primary schools to educate children about responsible pet ownership and we always treat all school pets for free.

Cate, Becca and the team are always looking for the next challenge to take in order to raise money for the White Cross Fund.

Vet Nicole supports Northumberland Young Farmers and regularly raises funds for various charities. Other ways we support charities include acting as a donation point to collect pet food, toys and supplies for homeless people and their pets which we donate to a local homeless shelter. We also work closely with local cat charity Care 4 Cats Rescue. And it’s not just our furry friends that we support – Clinic director and vet Katherine co-ordinates a local Contact The Elderly group which helps to tackle loneliness in elderly people living alone.

We give every team member five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend time volunteering for a charitable cause of their choice and, because we care for those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces to say thank you for all that they do.

Local area

Our Redcar practice cares for pets from far and wide including the communities of Redcar, Maske and Saltburn.

You’ll find our practice at Unit 3 West Dyke Retail Park and there’s plenty of free parking right outside the practice – take a virtual tour so you can see where we are and what the practice looks like inside.

Around our practice you’ll find all the facilities of the West Dyke Retail Park, OneGym and McDonalds if you’re feeling peckish. We’re not far from Redcar railway station if you’re travelling to us by train or, if you’re coming by car, we’re just off the roundabout where the A1085 meets West Dyke Road where there’s a Morrisons Petrol Station if you need to fill up your car with fuel.

With so many dogs between us, you’ll often find members of our team out and about walking their dogs. Some of the local dog walking venues we recommend include nearby Borough Park with plenty of space for the dog plus a dedicated children’s play area, Locke Park with a boating lake and tennis courts and Zetland Park.

If your dog likes a splash in the sea, local dog-friendly beaches include Saltburn Beach and Coatham Beach in Redcar and Marske Sands Beach.

Out of hours service

Being a pet owner is a 24-hour-a-day commitment so we provide care 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through our trusted out-of-hours service partner.

Pet dental services: dental care for dogs, cats and rabbits

We recommend you should have your pet’s teeth examined by one of our team on a regular basis. As many conditions are progressive, early identification is important.

A full dental check is included free with our Complete Wellness Plan.

If necessary, this should be followed up with a professional dental clean. Our team will then remove the tartar above and below the gumline and polish them, just like a dentist does for our teeth.

If certain teeth are so severely affected they cannot be saved, extractions will be necessary. Pets are usually able to go home on the same day.

– Dental health checks £FREE

– Dental ultrasonic cleaning and polishing £99
This price includes: general anaesthetic, fluids and medication

– Dental with extractions (all-inclusive) £299
This price includes: blood tests, general anaesthetic, fluids, medication and unlimited digital dental X-rays

– Rabbit dental package (all-inclusive) £120
This price includes: general anaesthetic, fluids, medication, dental X-rays and post op feeding

Our all-inclusive dental packages give you peace of mind that you can provide your pet with the best dental care without being surprised by any hidden costs. Please note that all pets on the Complete Wellness Plan will receive 20% off all dental procedures.

For more information on caring for your pets, including tips on good pet dental care and how to clean your pet’s teeth, read our advice pages.

  • "We have visited the practice quite a bit over the past year. Unfortunately, one of our rabbits -Trevor- got an abscess which spread and eventually caused his jaw to break. This was a hard time but the vets at the Redcar practice helped made us feel at ease. They put 100% effort into making Trevor better, and even when he had to be PTS, they still offered support and sincere condolences in the form of a card signed by all who helped Trevor.

The two months that followed we lost another rabbit (she was 8 years old and was not castrated so suffered from ovarian cancer) and a guinea pig who unsuspectingly passed away before reaching the vets. Both these times, the vets were warm and professional and helped us feel at ease .

I am grateful for all the help this team has given us and for helping us through our sad times. Than you !"

Everything always seems very relaxed the Vets talk to us as people rather than paying clients, the approx. costs of a treatment are also given which is helpful and the Wellness plan is a great idea. I will definitely recommend White Cross vets to anyone who asks"
