About Us

Introducing our White Cross Guiseley veterinary practice where our pet-loving and experienced team is on hand to look after your dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets.

Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

Our White Cross Vets Guiseley practice was the first ever White Cross veterinary practice and the name ‘White Cross’ comes from the area of Guiseley in which our practice is based. It was originally based on Cleasby Road in Menston when we first opened back in 1937 before relocating to Guiseley in 1987.

You’ll find us on Bradford Road and we’re open six days a week – on Monday to Friday we’re open from 8am to 7pm and on Saturday from 8am to 5pm.

Our team knows how much your pets mean to you – because we are all pet owners ourselves! Between us, we are proud owners of 20 pets including several rescue dogs, two oriental cats and a pair of bearded dragons.

We’re a close-knit team, many of us have been with the practice for a long time and we share a love of cakes and baking. We wear Fitbits and are divided into two rival Fitbit teams with one always at the top of the leaderboard – our team members spend a lot of time out walking our dogs to get their number of steps up!

Check out what our team has been up to, and which patients have been visiting us this week on our practice Facebook page.

Services

Our Guiseley practice has all the equipment and technology to make sure our patients receive the highest possible level of care. Our facilities include an operating theatre, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory (so we can turn your pet’s test results in minutes rather than days), blood pressure monitor and separate dog and cat wards where we can monitor in patients.

Our team has a range of specialisms to help meet pets’ care needs. Vet Alex has a special interest in ophthalmology (caring for pets’ eyes) and vet Natasha has a special interest in dentistry. Veterinary surgeon Rod has a certificate in internal medicine. And the puppy parties held by our veterinary nurse Nicola are loved by puppies and owners alike!

Our practice has been designed to make your pet’s visit as comfortable and stress free as possible. We use a combination of pheromones, special lighting and music designed to keep your pet feeling calm.

If you would like to talk to someone about your pet, please give us a call on 01943 873 147.

Community work

We enjoy giving back to the community we serve and encourage our team to make a difference by giving them five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend the time volunteering. Our team have used their donation days for everything from working at a local donkey sanctuary, helping out at the RSPCA and cycling to Paris to raise money for a children’s charity!

We’re proud to be able to say that we treat all school pets and wildlife for free and we help to educate the pet owners and vets of the future whenever we can. We provide free care for the class pets of Guiseley Primary School and our registered veterinary nurse Mel regularly visits local primary schools and community groups to teach children about responsible pet care. We also spread the word by attending local events including Burley Dog Show and High Royds Summer Fayre.

We support local pet charities including Guide Dogs and local sports teams, including sponsoring Guiseley Juniors U13s football team and all the junior girls team at Baildon Rugby Club.

We’re trying to educate dog owners about picking up after their dog and sponsor more than 100 dog waste bins across north Leeds with the aim of reducing dog fouling in the area.

And, because we care for those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces to say thank you for all that they do.

Local area

Our Guiseley practice is located just off the roundabout on Bradford Road, opposite the White Cross pub – in the White Cross area of town which is how our veterinary practice first got its name. You’ll find us just near the Wetherby Whaler, which is on the site of the former famous Harry Ramsdens fish and chip restaurant, and Aldi. Guiseley Football Club is also nearby. There’s plenty of free parking right outside the practice.

Clients come from far and wide to see our talented team! Our patents come from Guiseley, Baildon, Menston, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Otley, Yeadon, Rawdon, Horsforth, Bradford, Esholt and Ilkley.

If you’re coming to visit us and you’d like to walk your dog, we are blessed with some beautiful areas to explore right on our doorstep. You could try the High Royds estate, the lovely moorland of Baildon Moor, the famous Ilkley Moor where you can explore the Cow and Calf rocks, the cafe and stunning views of Otley Chevin (where you might spot the dog waste bins we sponsor) and Yeadon Tarn which has a playground and BMX track to keep smaller members of the family entertained.

Out of hours service

As a pet owner, you’re never off duty. We understand this and are pleased to be able to provide care 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year through our trusted out-of-hours service partner.

Pet dental services: dental care for dogs, cats and rabbits

We recommend you should have your pet’s teeth examined by one of our team on a regular basis. As many conditions are progressive, early identification is important.

A full dental check is included free with our Complete Wellness Plan.

If necessary, this should be followed up with a professional dental clean. Our team will then remove the tartar above and below the gumline and polish them, just like a dentist does for our teeth.

If certain teeth are so severely affected they cannot be saved, extractions will be necessary. Pets are usually able to go home on the same day.

– Dental health checks £FREE

– Dental ultrasonic cleaning and polishing £99
This price includes: general anaesthetic, fluids and medication

– Dental with extractions (all-inclusive) £299
This price includes: blood tests, general anaesthetic, fluids, medication and unlimited digital dental X-rays

– Rabbit dental package (all-inclusive) £120

Our all-inclusive dental packages give you peace of mind that you can provide your pet with the best dental care without being surprised by any hidden costs. Please note that all pets on the Complete Wellness Plan will receive 20% off all dental procedures.

Not only did they take fantastic care of our Nellie puppy they helped calm my two very nervous children down when a big dog came in and scared them (they are really nervous of big dogs). They were amazing and proof that we have picked the right surgery."

  • "My Staffie is a complete scaredy cat when it comes to vet's visits. Every time she has been to White Cross the staff have done everything to put her at ease, including once even carrying her into the treatment room. Yesterday we returned for her annual boosters and again staff were friendly and reassuring towards Tia. This is a complete contrast to other vets in the area who did nothing but throw a muzzle towards me before they would approach her. I couldn't recommend White Cross vets highly enough and feel reassured that Tia Is in caring hands whenever she visits"

In his younger years he had an issue that only White Cross were able to diagnose (3 other vets couldn't and advised the worst may happen). He required emergency care after an attack from another dog and was treated swiftly and compassionately (as was I, I was in a bit of a state) Now in his later years (13 human years) I know he continues to be in great hands!"

  • "I chose White Cross simply because I drove past it on the way to work - and they are absolutely fantastic. Nala has had all her injections done; her neutering; and most recently her microchipping. She gets absolutely terrified when we go to the vets (as most animals do) and that usually makes me feel bad for her... But White Cross are always so friendly and treat Nala like she's a princess!! She just wriggles and wriggles when having jabs etc done and usually cries but they are so good with her (especially Natalie!) Today they even just took her straight to the back so she wouldn't try to run to me (and so I didn't have to see her wail!) Genuinely can't fault them and would recommend them to everybody."

    - Alex Doherty

It is so obvious that all the staff here are not just animal carers, but true animal lovers, which is very reassuring. The nurses and reception staff are always cheerful, friendly, knowledgeable and ready to help... over the years I have had a great laugh with them and also on occasions a jolly good cry as well!

  • "We recently moved out dog to White Cross Vets and it's one of the best decisions we have ever made. The staff are all very friendly and make you and your pet feel welcome. They take time to explain what they are doing and why they are doing it and we are now moving our other family pets over to White Cross due to the great service we have had. Keep up the good work guys!"

  • "Our Westie Milo has been under the care of White Cross Vets in Guiseley for over 13 years now. My family and I are in no doubt that he would not still be with us today if it was not for the continued love, medical care and attention he has received so far. Our thanks and gratitude to Vanessa and all the staff for everything you do for us can never be enough xx Julie, Martin and Milo xx"

  • "My dachshund Darcey visited White Cross yesterday for her annual comprehensive physical examination. She, and we, were pleased to learn that she is 100% fit and healthy. She always seems to know when she is going to the vet and isn't very happy about it but when we pick her up I think she would be quite happy to stay! All the staff are lovely to her and we couldn't wish for a better veterinary practice! Keep up the good work! It's a full 4 paw rating from Darcey!"

  • "I will never forget the excellent emergency care and support that White Cross Vets, Guiseley gave my cat following a serious accident three years ago. Since then we make regular visits to the practice to monitor her health and I feel that with the expert guidance of the vets she is now in great condition and living a happy, healthy life. We always get a warm , cheerful reception when we arrive for appointments which helps her (and us!) as she is a very nervous pet."

  • "As a retired Ragdoll breeder, I am very picky about who handles my cats.
To my mind, knowing that the people in the veterinary practice are knowledgeable, skilled, highly professional, and compassionate are the most important elements that make up a good working relationship.

We have been a client of this practice since 2001 and our cats have always received the best of care. The White Cross team have given service above and beyond what is expected and work closely with specialists on treatment for unusual cases.

In my opinion, the Vets and staff of White Cross Vets in Guiseley are excellent! They are the BEST Veterinary practice in the area and will always work with a pet’s owner in deciding and carrying out the treatment of each pet. They are dedicated to giving the best possible care that can be given and we trust them implicitly with the care of our 10 Ragdoll cats."

  • "All the staff are fantastic. I changed to white cross after being unhappy with my old vets. They treat my dogs like they are members of my family (which they are) and not just an animal. Their level of care is unsurpassed and definitely recommend them to anyone.” Brilliant team."

  • "Our newest addition to the family, Lola, is only 6 months old and since we got her we have been taking her to White Cross Vets in Guiseley. All the staff have been absolutely fabulous every time we have been to visit, whether for her initial vaccinations, microchip or most recently neutering. I have been amazed by all the staff’s attention to detail and caring attitude and would highly recommend the practice to anyone. We especially found the puppy party fun and informative and know that whatever our future veterinary needs are for Lola White Cross Vets will be our 1st choice."
