About Us

We’re pleased to welcome you to our Gateacre, Liverpool practice where our friendly and expert team are dedicated to providing care for your dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets.

Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

White Cross Vets is a friendly veterinary practice that has been caring for pets for more than 80 years.

Our Gateacre, Liverpool practice is based on Gateacre Park Drive and we’re open six days a week – Monday to Fridays 8.30am to 7pm and Saturdays from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

We’re a friendly and creative bunch and we’re proud to be a close knit team. Our interests include sewing – vet Poppy and nurse Helen make everything from baby bibs to a cat teepee on a sewing machine – and gardening – nurse Helen and client care co-ordinator Clare have green fingers and grow their own vegetables.

We also like to keep ourselves fit and healthy so we can keep your pets fit and healthy – nurse Kirsty is part of a dance team that takes part in competitions, nurse Helen works out with her personal trainer and nurse Clare enjoys fitness classes.

As you would imagine, the team are all pet lovers and have six cats and four dogs between them. Clare helps out at the Greyhound Trust and Acorn Farm in Kirby in her spare time. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile for our clients and their pets so they are always excited to come in and see us – as proved by our glowing reviews online.

Client care co-ordinator Ashleigh is our social media superstar – she keeps our Facebook page updated so you can see what we’re up to!

The clinic was designed to help all pets feel as comfortable as possible and keep their stress levels at a minimum.

Our team has a versatile range of skills and interests including clinic director and vet Sarah who has a surgery certificate and enjoys doing orthopaedic surgery and Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) surgery to help dogs with short noses breathe more easily and avoid dermatological problems.

Vet Poppy has an interest in dentistry and makes good use of our dental x-ray machine, and nurse Helen and client care co-ordinator Clare are mobility advisors.

Please call 0151 556 9444 to speak to a member of our team if you have any concerns about your pet.

Community work

At our Gateacre, Liverpool practice we’re committed to giving something back to the people and pets of our local communities.

We’re proud to be able to say that we treat all school pets and wildlife for free including the class pets of nearby Childwall Valley Primary School. Vet Laura also goes out to visit primary schools including Hay Green Primary in Wavertree and Christ Church Primary School in Bootle to talk to pupils about what it’s like being a vet and the pets that she routinely sees. She is always happy to go and visit any local school or community group.

We encourage our team to go out into the community and make a difference by giving every team member five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend time volunteering for a charitable cause of their choice. Client care co-ordinator Clare, for example, uses her donation days helping out at Mersey & Cheshire Greyhound Rescue.

As a team, we are long term supporters of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and, to say thank you to those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces.

We recommend you should have your pet’s teeth examined by one of our team on a regular basis. As many conditions are progressive, early identification is important.

If necessary, this should be followed up with a professional dental clean. Our team will then remove the tartar above and below the gumline and polish them, just like a dentist does for our teeth.

If certain teeth are so severely affected they cannot be saved, extractions will be necessary. Pets are usually able to go home on the same day.

– Dental health checks £FREE

– Dental ultrasonic cleaning and polishing £99
This price includes: general anaesthetic, fluids and medication

– Dental with extractions (all-inclusive) £299

  • "Last year my Golden Retriever Buster was diagnosed with Nasal cancer. Although he had to undergo some distressing treatment he always pulled me to go faster on his walk to White cross in Gateacre because he loved his visits. Even on his last visit. I was never felt forced to make a decision about his care but was given valuable information so that I felt I was making the best choices for him. The support and friendly nature of all the staff was amazing. It got me through the toughest time. Now I have a Springer Spaniel Coco and one of my first actions was to register her with White cross. After discovering how dissapointing Pet insurancecan be for elderly dogs I find the monthly health plan invaluable and Coco also enjoys her visits! Even sitting on the reception desk wanting to take charge!! I only wish I could find a GP practice for myself which was as friendly and inviting!"
