About Us

We’re pleased to welcome you to our Middlesbrough Coulby Newham practice where our friendly and expert team is ready to provide care for your dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets.

Learn more about your local White Cross Vets...

Our Coulby Newham practice is based at The Parkway Centre and we’re open six days a week – on Mondays to Fridays you can visit us between 8.30am and 7pm and on a Saturday we’re open from 8.30am to 5pm.

We are an active and family-orientated practice. Many of us have children and both us and our pets (we’re all pet owners and have 37 pets between us!) enjoy spending time with them.

Clinic director and vet Rob and the team regularly organise fundraising events for the White Cross Fund and Rob has also completed a number of charity walks with his dogs including the Yorkshire Three Peaks, The National Three Peaks and The North Yorkshire 65 Strides (40 miles) walking challenge.

Client care co-ordinator Cat H is into running and keeping fit, she’s a member of her local Park Run club and plays for a local netball team.

Several of our team members have horses and enjoy looking after them as well as taking part in the occasional competition. Our registered veterinary nurse Lisa enjoys keeping hamsters and has had some success in the past at ‘Hamster Bowling’ (look this up on YouTube!). A number of our team have Fitbits and we have a couple of Coulby teams taking part in the White Cross Fitbit League.

See what our team has been up to recently and who’s been visiting us on our practice’s Facebook page.

Services

You’ll find that our Coulby Newham vet practice has all the latest veterinary equipment on hand to help diagnose and treat your pets. We have an operating theatre, digital x-ray, in-house laboratory for rapid diagnosis of illnesses, separate dog and cat wards, blood pressure monitor and ultrasound.

Our team has a versatile range of skills and interests including clinic director and vet Rob who has the ESVPS General Practitioner Certificate in Small Animal Surgery and is particularly interested in eyelid and facial surgery, orthopaedics (especially stifle surgery), abdominal surgery and perineal hernia repair. Rob also gained the ILM Certificate in Management in 2017 and is studying for the ILM Level 5 Diploma in Management.

Vet Cat P has a COAPE Diploma in Animal Behaviour and Training and enjoys behaviour and training cases. She also has a particular interest in ferret medicine and surgery and acupuncture. Vet Amy P is studying for the RCVS Certificate of Advanced Practice in Medicine and is interested in Internal Medicine and Ultrasonography.

Head nurse Gabby has an NCert in Veterinary Anaesthesia and is particularly interested in pain management and challenging anaesthesia cases.

Please call 01642 576 333 to speak to a member of our team if you have any concerns about your pet.

Community work

At our Coulby Newham practice we’re committed to give something back to the people and animals of our local communities.

We’re proud to be able to say that we treat all school pets and wildlife for free including the gerbils from King’s Academy School and small pets from several other local primary schools. We also talk to schoolchildren about being responsible pet owners and our registered veterinary nurses Lisa and Amy H have visited several local schools with Amy’s dog Bramble to talk to the pupils about pet healthcare. Clinic director and vet Rob has visited local schools including nearby Whinstone Nursery in Ingleby Barwick with pets Finlay and Ivy.

As a team we do a lot of work with Lisa James Cat Rescue and the local Cats Protection. We also treat several local guide dogs and hearing dogs.

We encourage our team to go out into the community and make a difference by giving every team member five ‘donation days’ each year so that they can spend time volunteering for a charitable cause of their choice. Our registered veterinary nurse used her donation days to visit Sri Lanka to help out with a neutering and dog rescue project, learning a lot about the challenges faced by local veterinary workers.

To say thank you to those who care, we offer a 10% discount to all employees of the NHS, emergency services and armed forces.

Local area

Our Coulby Newham practice looks after the dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets belonging to the communities of Coulby Newham, Hemlington, Marton and Acklam, although many clients choose to visit us from further afield.

You’ll find our practice located just outside The Parkway Centre, on the opposite side from Tesco. Find us at the end of the car park, opposite KFC, Aldi and St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church. Other local landmarks include the Tesco petrol station, handy if you need to fill up your car, and the Rainbow Community Hub and Library plus just down the road is Coulby Newham Police Station. We have plenty of free parking right outside the practice.

If you’re looking for somewhere to walk your dog nearby, Fairy Dell is very near the practice and is a favourite spot for both clients and members of our team. It has 42 acres of natural woodland and parkland with an ornamental lake. Other popular local dog walking spots including Hemlington Lake and Stainton Woods. If you’re happy to venture slightly further afield, Guisborough Woods has many miles of tracks, forest and moorland for dogs and their owners to enjoy. We are also lucky enough to be close to several good local beaches and our nurse Lisa and vet Rob strongly recommend Marske as a favourite dog-friendly beach.

Out of hours service

Pet dental services: dental care for dogs, cats and rabbits

We recommend you should have your pet’s teeth examined by one of our team on a regular basis. As many conditions are progressive, early identification is important.

A full dental check is included free with our Complete Wellness Plan.

If necessary, this should be followed up with a professional dental clean. Our team will then remove the tartar above and below the gumline and polish them, just like a dentist does for our teeth.

If certain teeth are so severely affected they cannot be saved, extractions will be necessary. Pets are usually able to go home on the same day.

– Dental health checks £FREE

– Dental with extractions £299*

– Rabbit dental package £120*

*Please note that these prices do not include blood tests or digital X-rays.

Please note that all pets on the Complete Wellness Plan will receive 20% off all dental procedures.

For more information on caring for your pets, including tips on good pet dental care and how to clean your pet’s teeth, read our advice pages.
